Men get better socks. This is obviously not fair. Women should not have to suffer cold legs because of gender bias.

They also get handkerchiefs big enough to actually use, a big plus in an object that is otherwise completely useless.

Women's shoes and clothing are based on a very small, stick thin hypothetical baseline female. For bigger sizes, it's often like they just glue on a bit extra, the proportions become all wrong and any fit that might have been there is lost in the bulk. Men's clothing generally is less fitted anyway, and seems to suffer less from glue-on syndrome.

There seems to be this idea that women are dainty little creatures who should only have toy-sized accessories. The sizing in our clothing is even based on a much smaller average female of times long ago, making it hard for most women of today to find clothing that fits.

It's even harder on us Dutchesses, who are on average the tallest people in the world. I'm six feet tall (1m83) and I lose a lot of money because my clothes, that were long enough in the store, shrink in the first wash and no longer fit me. This is especially annoying in tops, that suddenly turn out to be crop tops, and jeans that after their first washing would make any male wince.

I kind of manage, but I'm very tired of adapting to fashion as opposed to fashion adapting to the wishes of the wearer. I wear extra long jeans, and I wear compact roundnosed boots that don't make my feet look like Viking longships, like the fashionable pointy-toed ones do. It took me days of shopping to find these, and I hate shopping for clothes or shoes. I wear boots so pants that are a bit short can still be worn. I mostly wear unfitted or stretchy tops because it will matter less if they shrink. I make my own clothing, mostly for larp, but if I can find the time, I make mundanewear as well. I'm pretty much forced to.

I was so disappointed in Christmas fashions (either too short or too tent-like) that I ended up wearing my Elven wrap pants to Christmas Dinner. I like to feel and dress feminine every now and then, but it takes all of the fun out of clothing shopping when you know that most of the things you like, will not fit you.

My sentiments exactly

At least we can make our own clothes, and not be subject to the fashion-enslavement so many of our build or height are forced into.

I refuse to wear pointed boots
I refuse to wear miniskirts in FREAKING WINTER!
I refuse to bow down to size 32 even if the media honour them as if they were godesses.
I refuse to believe that if you tie your jeans at the calves and wear pointed shoes and a silly hat people will think you're fashionable.

I like my clothes to fit me, and they look great even if they're not fashion. Yes, I will wear that flamenco skirt come summer. If only to show that I too can wear pretty clothes.

Rants about fashion often dominate my journal. It's good to have it out in the open at times. And I'm backing you up on this one, yes ma'am.

When we're home alone, my wife wears my socks.
So I could never find any clean socks to wear, until the other day I bought 20 pairs of socks, all exactly the same, all in the same colour, so that the pairs always match.
Now finding clean socks is not a problem anymore.

(me and my wife have the same size in socks)

By the way, I like your user icon. Any chance we get to see a bigger version of that picture?

That picture was made by Mark or Josianne at the premiere of ROTK, and all the pictures they made can be found at http://www.vanderwolf.net/live/foto.cgi?dir=costumes/lotrrotk
Enjoy:)
