I really shouldn't be contemplating this. But as I sit here, a few yards away from thirty or forty-odd yards of unused fabric, I'm thinking about Saturday. More specifically, I'm thinking about the fabric market of Utrecht, which is the biggest concentration of fabric I've ever seen, barring Berwick street in London, but that's a tough one to beat.
At any given time, there are more than a dozen different costume projects nesting in my brain. Some of them are in the very early stages of development, some have hatched and some are nearly ready to take wing. But they all need yards upon frelling yards of fabric, and buttons, and trim, and thread. Which I will buy in the planning stage, but may not use until months later, if at all. After all, ideas change.
If it was just me, I would not buy as much fabric. But an LRP-er never shops alone. I have a slew of characters, who all have different tastes and preferences, so if I don't like it, there is always a chance that Ssussun or Mistral will. Where I detest anything glittery or shiny, a character may very well decide to like it. And then I'm stuck with it. I wear only silver(toned) jewellery, but my characters are known to like a bit of gold. And so slowly, I'm collecting enough cloth and shinies to satisfy all of our needs, and try to squeeze in the sewing time to actually make anything out of it.
They're great girls though, and you won't hear me saying anything else, but it's hard enough to decide when it's just me...and I only have the budget of one person!
