I went through some of my books, and decided to thin out the old collection to put off having to buy another bookcase. I'm also hoping to sell a few to finance my outrageously luxurious lifestyle (no chocolate at the end of the month if it means I can go to the next LRP event). I had some books I never really wanted in the first place, but that got sent to me by a book club I was a member of a long time ago. It's their way of punishing you for not ordering things on a monthly basis: three or four ghastly dumb romance or mystery stories in expensive hardcover editions. I also picked up some fluff novels on sale, or from the railway station bookstore if I wanted something to read on the train. Some of them are real gems...I mean, what was I thinking when I bought that essential anthology, "Ode to the bicycle"?

In the end, I mostly had Pratchett, Tolkien, Hobb and J.K. Rowling stuff left, with books on Art Nouveau, sewing, the Celts and the making of the LotR movies in the non-fiction part. I'm such a geek...

I'm getting rid of some of the audiobooks, even though I enjoy listening to them while I maille. I've 'read' them, and unlike Harry Potter 1 or Coraline, hearing them again isn't all that appealing. HP1 is still pretty amusing, especially the centaur's accents still crack me up...you're just not expecting them to have sort of fake northern English/Scottish accents:) "Mahrrrs is brrright! tonight!"

I'm hoping to find out what happened to my university's English language audiolibrary when the English section moved. They let me borrow stuff for free and they had a pretty good collection, but they seem to have disappeared in the move. The staff are in temporary buildings now anyway, I think they'll unpack the books on tape once they get settled into the new building. In the mean time, I might try and A: convince my library I'm blind, because "seeing people do not need audiobooks" B: try and get a hold of some secondhand books on tape/cd or C: get them off amazon.uk, who seem to have reasonable prices and a good collection. In any case, I'm expecting to do more maille work soon and it would be nice to have something to keep my head busy while my hands do their thing.
